Latest Updates from Our Project:

Who wants to read this book? (Also asking you a quick favor.)
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Apr 19, 2022 at 12:45:52 AM

Yeah, so, I'm tired. Real tired. So much going on, and a lot of it really positive for me and our press. Fingers crossed. But luckily if you're here on this campaign, you're my people, so I'm just gonna write a tired update. (And thank you for that.) Keep it simple. Ready?

1) The Night Ivy e-book is done. (How to get it will be next.) I really, really, love this book, hope that it brings you something you need, and hope you will look forward to it's sequel, which I am having somehow even more of a blast writing. Let me know, of course, if you have any issues with the book. Thank you again! I hope you enjoy it! ♥

2) BackerKit surveys will be sent as soon as BackerKit approves them. (*they aren't really surveys, just "check out") - the file is uploaded so as soon as you fill out your survey, you can download the e-book right then (as well as e-books for any other books you added-on). So look for this in your email! (Could be somewhere between now and a few days, I'm sorry, it depends on BackerKit.)

3) The printing world is a mess. So I regret to inform you that the hardcovers will be out at earliest to you in August. (Still hoping for Gen Con, but even that's not certain.) I had options to get them earlier but sacrifice the quality, but I refused. I hope you will enjoy them. And the pre-order page, thus, will stay up, through June. (The book releases on 04 July, at which point the e-book and paperback will be on sale normally, with the hardcover up when it arrives like the diva that it is.)

4) I'm on a little personal mission for a YouTube channel (run by someone many of you will recognize) that can monetize at 1000 subscribers. If you don't mind, would you consider helping out? No cost, no spam, and I give you my personal word this will help a lot of indie creators and life-changing charities.

  • Click https://youtube.com/ArvanEleron
  • Log onto You Tube (with your gmail)
  • Click Subscribe
  • Then that's it. If you watch the channel (inclusive gaming, kindness, story and narrative, raises big money for charity), cool, and if not it'll slide down your subscription list and not bother you.

Thank you! ♥

Also note my social media is kept up-to-date on my website, in case you want to follow, celebrate quiet fantasy and community with me, or hang on my Discord.

Cheers, all! And my best in these times -

- ♥ Emily.

Hello! If you backed our three last campaigns, you'll see this note thrice. Thank you for that support, for allowing me to not have to craft three different messages, and thank you for allowing me to say thrice. You are all the best. : )

So this will be quick. I'd really love for you to check out and spread the word about our latest release: Gigi Ganguly's One Arm Shorter Than The Other. It's delightfully uncanny, a quick pleasant read, mixes speculative and non-speculative genres, and I love it very much. #OneArmShorter https://atthisarts.com/product/one-arm-shorter

And...this stunning, brand-new review from Hugo-winning fanzine nerds of a feather, flock together! http://www.nerds-feather.com/2022/04/nanoreview-one-arm-shorter-than-other.html

Wishing you find joy and hope in these times ♥ - Emily.

The cover is patterned with a large, Delhi-style silvertoned jali (lattice) over a delicate medium-jade-colored background and wound with small rose-colored roses. Overtop are stretched two arms, medium-toned, hands wrinkled with age, and wearing loose beige sleeves. Between them in a modern dark emerald-color is "Gigi Ganguly's One Arm Shorter Than The Other."

So many dragons
almost 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 12, 2022 at 12:36:10 PM

Hello! Emily here. As for Night Ivy, things are going awesome. The book is typeset, I'm really fond of my font choices (it's a thing) and it's being proofread right now. We should be able to get it to you well in advance of the release date, to help build some buzz and reviews. Thank you, again, so much for supporting my story.

And there are more dragons.

  • We've released a really fun audiobook for The Dragon of Ynys by Minervan Cerridwen read (I call it performed, but it's both) by Chicago's Ryan H. Reid. I hope you'll give it a look (or a listen).
  •  Alia Terra: Stories from the Dragon Realm by Ava Kelly, illustrated by Matthew Spencer, and with a truly awesome blurb from Bogi Takács, is now available for order. If you order the print from our website, you can download the e-book now, before the 01 March release. I can't tell you how much I love this book, and I hope that you will too. It's the kindness we all need right now. (And there are two surprise stories that you can find on the website and read or download now!)

I admit that I am a bit tired in these days. (Emily speak for totally mentally exhausted.) But with these releases (and more) I can see the light ahead. And please make no mistake that it is you who is carrying me over that line. I see you and I thank you, and I hope these stories help you as well. It is the thing I know how to do.

Cheers and ♥ -

- Emily.

Thank you!

A rather simple note, a rather profound feeling.

THANK YOU!

Because of your support and love, and believing in what I do - whether in this campaign or over all these years with all this growth - we are going to have beautiful, huggable, foil-stamped hardcovers to tell Xelle's first story.

Plus (!) you will all receive two new short stories, thanks to backers of this campaign.

But it's not over yet?

Nope! And as I go to sleep, I'll think happy thoughts of maybe new readers and supporters joining us overnight, as February (with a record snowstorm) arrives here in Detroit, and then as February finds its way to Minneapolis, and Albuquerque, and Vancouver, and Savoonga, and Waikīkī, and Pago Pago, and finally to the soft, friendly boobies of Howland and Baker Islands.

I hope you enjoyed this silly little (but important to me) campaign. I'm so grateful to you. And we'll get through these times together.

January for Boobies
about 3 years ago – Tue, Feb 01, 2022 at 04:23:30 AM

We will get to the boobies shortly, but first a few quick notes.

First, I had a wonderful time at ConFusion! It was a complicated event and time for such a thing, and all I'd really like to say is how much I appreciate (love!) our communities - and if I talked to you there, how much I enjoyed it. I look forward to brighter days along with you.

Next, in case you love to support indie Midwest speculative fiction, I wanted to let you know that an author that I've met at Gen Con and Motor City Comic Con, S.A. McClure, is running a Kickstarter for a six-volume set of her Lost Queen Chronicles series regarding a missing fae princess: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lostqueenchronicles/make-100-lost-queen-chronicles-the-complete-fantasy-series

Now, a big one! I was truly just about to hit "Publish" on this update when I saw a notification. Notification. Must look. And (!) it was the first full concept draft of the Map of Alyssia. Ahhhhhhh! (I love fantasy hardcovers, but I love fantasy maps more, and this is going to be wonderful. Speaking of cons, I met the artist, Savanna Sheer at Origins in Columbus. Like I said, I love our communities.

Onward to today's topic.

As some of you know, I don't like giving people the worry of having to figure out time zones, especially with so many readers who have anxiety disorders or are otherwise neurodivergent. So when I do deadlines or submissions, I often try to say that as long as it is (said date) anywhere on Earth (this timeline) you're still fine.

I have writer friends in Hawai'i, which is five hours behind us, and often I've set things to extend at least until the end of the day there.

This time, I decided to confirm what the actual end of the day is.

The Pacific is fascinating. So much history, unique lands and climates, wonderful peoples, tragedies of colonization and war, and just on and on. I'm not here to represent that, but my mind spins at the vastness, depth, and sometimes isolation of it all.

First, I learned that many of the islands near the International Date Line (IDL) have opted to be on the same day as the nearest large land masses. (Makes sense.) So, the Republic of Kiribati is already onto the next day as the last one winds down, despite the Line Islands reaching further east than Hawai'i. (Which means you could skip or repeat an entire calendar day by traveling across the IDL as it runs along a latitude.) And then, while the Aleutian Islands extend past the IDL to the west, they remain on the same time as Hawai'i. Then, the last people to experience the day are those in the very few islands in the time zone to the west of that: The Midway Islands, American Samoa, and Niue. Yet, the day does not end there.

Enter Howland and Baker Islands, currently claimed (along with a California-sized swath of ocean) by the US. These remote islands have minimal flora, glaring sunlight, a constant wind, little rain, no fresh water source, a few weird ruins including a beacon tower and an airplane, and who knows what hidden military sensors. They are also known as the area Amelia Earhart was trying to reach when she disappeared.

There were human people there, a few colonists, until they were bombed the day after Pearl Harbor. Those who survived left soon after.

Since then, the US has named the islands (and surrounding coral reefs) a wildlife refuge and visits on occasion, but the main residents of the islands are birds. Including the boobies.

Red-Footed Boobies on Howland Island

Now. These lovely, fluffy birds were named (and are still called) boobies because the soldiers thought they were dim-witted to be so friendly around humans. Mmm. But you know what, boobies are nice and soft and friendly, and if any of these boobies have access to this campaign, they can pledge anytime through 31 January 2022 AoE (Anywhere on Earth).

Boobies, we salute you.

And thus! We have through 31 January 2022 AoE (7 AM on 01 Feb. here in Ferndale and 2 AM on 02 Feb. on Caroline Island) to share and back this campaign. Anyway - through January!

Letting people know (if you want to, can, and have the energy, of course) is really helpful. The margins were very tight on the minimum number. More orders lowers our costs, helps me order more books for events, and also moves us closer to that $4000 stretch goal of ...foil stamping... : D

Thinking of you all, grateful for you all, and wishing you all warm wishes in these days.
